On November 11, Google announced on its channels the launch of the November 2024 Search Update («November 2024 Core Update» in English). This update would be the third one announced of the year, and it comes after a lot of criticism of the March update, where many sites were seriously affected.

It’s unknown when the search update will be completed, but Google Search Central will announce on their X/Twitter profile when it is finished.

How does this update affect tourism?

It’s still too early to affirm how this might affect the tourism industry, as Google hasn’t been clear about how its update will affect the results.

During the March 2024 update, many tourism sites, especially generalist media, saw a sharp decrease in traffic and a loss of presence in Google Discover.

In the August update, many sites recovered some of their traffic, but the majority of the charts looked like this:

Google Core Update of August 2024
A small increase after a significant decrease. No site managed to recover the traffic levels it had before.

We’ll see how tourism will be affected by this update.
